CHICAGO (WLS) — On Saturday morning, a crowd gathered at Soldier Field to pay tribute to fallen heroes who have given their lives in service.
The occasion was marked by the Soldier Field 10 Memorial Day Run, featuring both 10-mile and 10K races.

This event serves as a heartfelt tribute to those who sacrificed for the nation, attracting thousands of participants.
Runners embark on their journey with the first half-mile adorned with posters of fallen service members, prompting moments of reflection and gratitude for their bravery.
Among the runners were ten active-duty Ukrainian service members who traveled to Chicago specifically for this event.
Chicago, known for having one of the largest Ukrainian communities in the United States, has also become a refuge for families displaced by the ongoing conflict with Russia.
The visit is meant to be an act of remembrance and a symbol of international solidarity and give the soldiers a mental break.
This is their first time visiting the United States. They will then return to the front lines. Military leadership say their experience in Chicago is meant to give these soldiers hope.
The race begins at 7 a.m. on Saturday.
