Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made headlines when she attended the Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty on Sunday night, accompanied by her husband, venture capitalist Paul Pelosi. The couple made a striking appearance at the prestigious event, held at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, as they posed together on the red carpet, with Paul looking sharp in a tuxedo.
Pelosi, who plans to retire from Congress at the end of her term in January 2027, seemed to surprise many with her presence at the star-studded gathering. Her attendance sparked curiosity and confusion among social media users, who questioned how and why she was invited to such an exclusive event.
Critics online were quick to voice their bewilderment. Some raised questions about the source of the invitation, especially in light of the couple’s significant financial gains during Nancy Pelosi’s nearly four-decade-long political career, which reportedly includes over $130 million in stock profits.

“Who sent her an invitation?” one user queried on Facebook, reflecting the general sentiment of surprise. Another echoed this sentiment, simply asking, “Why is she there?”
“Who sent her an invitation?” one Facebook user scoffed.
“Why is she there?” another chimed in.
“Who paid for her to go?” a third bewildered user said.
Pelosi, also 85, described the Academy Awards as “wonderful” before rambling about the importance of the arts.
“We needed this very much tonight,” she told a USA Today reporter.
“It’s a time when the arts have a stronger role than ever to bring us all together to laugh, to cry, to be inspired, and the rest, and to see the excellence of it all.”
Some users wasted no time in labeling Pelosi “crazy Nancy” – a nickname that President Trump has used previously to attack the senior Democrat – after a clip of her remarks were shared online.
One even joked that she deserves an Academy Award for being the biggest hypocrite.
Pelosi and her hubby mingled with “I Love LA” star Rachel Sennott and “Industry” actress Myha’la at the bash, according to Vanity Fair.
It’s not the first time Pelosi has attended the Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty.
She and Paul attended the shindig in March 2023 – less than five months after he was attacked in their California home by David DePape.
