Breaking: Tall Ship Crashes Into Brooklyn Bridge, Multiple People Injured

A colossal training ship from the Mexican Navy visited New York City as part of the promotion for the upcoming Sail4th tall ship event, set to commemorate the 250th anniversary of America.

But it had a big problem on Saturday as it appeared to sail right into the Brooklyn Bridge, taking out its masts in the process.

Warning for graphic language:

Multiple people were injured when the tall ship’s masts crashed onto the deck.

A rescue mission was launched to save individuals from the water after one of the ship’s towering 147-foot masts, carrying 277 crew members primarily consisting of cadets, collided with the bridge’s roadway shortly before 9 p.m., according to sources from The Post.

“The ship was navigating under the bridge, and there were sailors on the top. The sails struck the bridge, causing people to fall off,” recounted Elijah West, a tourist from Texas. “I think they were attempting some sort of display. It was the Mexican Navy. It was chaotic. We were beneath the bridge and started running. Then I noticed people dangling from the sails. Police boats arrived swiftly—about five minutes later.”

They are looking into whether there was a loss of power on the ship.

Here’s a clip of the cadets who were on the ship on May 13.

This is a developing story, so we will keep you updated.
