A BAKERY that provides baked goods to various grocery chains and restaurants is issuing a recall for a selection of its products due to the discovery of an ingredient that poses a potential life threat.
The recall that has been announced by the Food and Drug Administration lists almost 20 products that are being pulled off shelves.
New Grains Gluten Free Bakery in Utah which supplies grocery and health food stores like Harmon’s and Natural Grocers confirmed the recall on Friday.
The bakery also provides baked goods to a number of restaurant chains including B Spot Burgers, Good Earth, and the hot dog chain JDawgs.
The recall involves items such as breads and bagels, along with sweet treats like cookies, amid fears that undisclosed ingredients might trigger “serious or life-threatening allergic reactions.”
It came after the bakery discovered some items could contain eggs, soy, or milk without consumers being warned on the packaging.
“Individuals with allergies or severe sensitivity to eggs, soy, or milk are at risk of experiencing serious or potentially life-threatening allergic reactions if they eat these products,” the company cautioned.
The affected items include artisan breads, savoury and sweet bagels, a variety of cookies, and croutons.
Only batches that were distributed between April 7 and April 21 with lot numbers 90-107 are impacted.
No retailers outside of the state are affected.
The bakery issued further information about the items for consumers to check if they have been impacted.
“The breads and croutons were packaged in clear vacuum-sealed plastic bags, while the cookies were packaged in regular clear plastic bags,” the company said.
” The affected products have labels that indicate they are ‘gluten-free’ and display the New Grains brand name.
“The label colors could be red, purple, orange, blue, green, or pink.”
No illnesses have yet been reported as a result of the undeclared ingredients.
But anyone who discovers that they have bought the affected items are being warned not to eat them.

Symptoms of such a reaction include hives, vomiting, and swelling of the tongue.
In the most severe cases, people could experience anaphylaxis within minutes of coming into contact with a contaminated product.
This life-threatening condition can be identified by the swelling of the tongue and/or throat, difficulty breathing, dizziness and fainting, and blue or grey lips, tongue, and/or skin.
Anyone who suspects they are suffering from a severe allergic reaction must dial 911 immediately.
