US, Iran 'getting close' to agreeing deal to end war after 67 days

The United States and Iran are on the brink of finalizing a memorandum of understanding designed to end their nearly ten-week-long conflict and initiate discussions regarding the future of Iran’s nuclear agenda.

An official from Pakistan, which has been mediating the peace negotiations for weeks, indicated optimism about the talks. “We are nearing the conclusion of this process. A resolution is within reach,” the official shared, as reported by Reuters.

Further insights from Axios, which referenced four sources including two U.S. officials, suggest that Washington and Tehran are closer to reaching a peace agreement than they have been since the commencement of U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28. An Iranian response addressing several critical issues is anticipated within the next 48 hours.

Speculation about a potential peace agreement gained momentum following President Trump’s unexpected cessation of the Project Freedom initiative, aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz to international shipping, after just two days. Meanwhile, Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed to the press that the U.S. campaign against Iran had concluded.
