Utility Worker ‘Brothers’ of Road Rage Victim Face Hedge Fund Driver Indicted in Murder Case

Dozens of Con Edison employees appeared at court Tuesday as the man accused of killing Koran Irvine faced an upgraded second-degree murder charge after a grand jury indictment in the alleged road rage shooting.

Victor Romero, a former NYPD detective who worked as a driver and security guard for a hedge fund, is now charged with second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of 46-year-old Irvine on New York City’s George Washington Bridge last week.

Irvine, who is survived by his wife and two children, had worked for utility company Con Edison for 20 years before Romero, 62, allegedly shot him.

The employee described his close friendship with Irvine, saying their families often “hung out” and that their children were “friends.”

Prosecutors allege that after a near collision while the two men were driving toward the George Washington Bridge, surveillance footage captured the suspect “aggressively tailgating” Irvine before pulling alongside his vehicle and firing at least one shot.

Romero, who had previously posted $1 million bail and pleaded not guilty to the initial first-degree manslaughter charges, appeared in court with his attorney and private security detail.

He did not comment publicly when reporters approached him outside the courthouse.
