Virginia State University Shooting Leaves at Least 5 Injured, 1 Critically

A Saturday morning shooting at Virginia State University left at least five people wounded, with one victim still in critical condition, the university and VSU Police said.

A university official told News Outlet that officers were called to the 3300 block of Boisseau Street around 1:28 a.m., where they found five people outside VSU residence halls suffering from gunshot injuries.

All five victims were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment, the official said. One person remained in critical condition, while the other four were treated for injuries described as not life-threatening.

VSU Police had previously said the gunfire broke out near the university’s Quad Annexes, a student housing area on campus.

In a statement posted on X, VSU Police said a shooting had occurred in the area of the Quad Annexes and that multiple victims had been transported to hospitals in the region.

Authorities said officers were at the scene and urged students, staff and others on campus to stay away from the area.

The university also said earlier on X that “multiple suspects” were believed to be involved in the Virginia State University shooting. No arrests have been reported so far.

The campus was initially placed on lockdown following the shooting, but that lockdown has since been lifted, according to the university official.

“A significant law enforcement presence remains on campus,” a university official told News Outlet.

An investigation into the shooting, led by Chesterfield County Police with assistance from VSU Police, ATF, and the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, is ongoing, a university official told News Outlet.

The university is asking anyone with information to contact Chesterfield County Police at 804-748-1251, Crime Solvers at 804-748-0660, or VSU Police at 804-524-5411.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
