Vladislav Gavrikov's goal propels Rangers to OT home win over Stars

It was a tense and thrilling evening at home for the Rangers, culminating in a hard-earned victory on Tuesday night. After over an hour of intense play, the team emerged triumphant against the Stars with a 3-2 win.

The hero of the night was Vladislav Gavrikov, who netted the decisive goal just 1:09 into overtime, securing the crucial two points for the Rangers.

The game saw a pivotal moment in the third period when the Stars seized a 2-1 lead. The momentum shifted following a costly miscue by Rangers captain J.T. Miller, who mishandled the puck, leading to a Dallas breakaway.

Wyatt Johnson capitalized on the turnover, executing a slick backhand pass around a sliding Gavrikov to Miko Rantanen. Rantanen made no mistake, scoring his 11th goal of the season past Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin, giving the Stars a temporary advantage.

Refusing to back down, the Rangers peppered Stars goalie Casey DeSmith with 20 shots, and their persistence was rewarded. Will Cuylle found an opportunity amidst the chaos, grabbing a rebound and cleverly banking it off DeSmith to equalize and push the game into overtime.

Will Cuylle corralled a rebound, turned around and banked it in off DeSmith to ultimately force overtime.

The two teams put forth a relatively even first two periods.

Both scored one goal on 10 shots through the opening 20 minutes before posting another 11 shots on goal each in the second.

They also traded off power plays, with the Rangers technically earning five in total and three more man-advantage stretches than the Stars.

The Rangers power play, which has gone with five forwards on the top unit in Adam Fox’s absence, mustered just four total shots through their first three chances.

Despite racking up seven shots on goal during a four-minute power play, after Sam Steel drew blood from Alexis Lafreniere on a high-sticking penalty, the Rangers could not capitalize.

While the power play had on-and-off moments, the penalty kill was effective and aggressive.

The Rangers PK fended off both of the Stars’ power plays.

Dallas, however, lost Tyler Seguin early in the game, after the star forward collided with Gavrikov in the first period.

That left an already-depleted Stars lineup, which was already without defenseman Thomas Harley, even more shorthanded.
