Pep Guardiola declared that Manchester City have ‘closed a chapter’ after becoming champions of the world on Friday night – but warned that they want to write more stories.

City beat Fluminense 4-0 in Jeddah to make history by becoming the first English club to lift five of the biggest trophies in one year.

And Guardiola wants the Treble winners to go on and build again in an unrelented pursuit of silverware.

‘I have the feeling that we closed a chapter. I have the feeling that the job is done. I want to share this with all the players we’ve had, and my coaches – Enzo Maresca, Mikel Arteta – that have helped us in the past to achieve something incredible.

‘It was incredible work behind the scenes, winning all the titles. Liverpool already did it a few years ago with Jurgen (Klopp) but we won a lot in Premier League and Carabaos. It’s unbelievable what we have done.

‘Now we rest a little bit at Christmas and buy another book. Buy a new book and write beautiful histories.’

City are back to defending their league crown at Everton next Wednesday and are sweating on the fitness of Rodri after he limped out with a knee problem. The Spaniard was seen dancing in the trophy celebrations and Guardiola will hope he is ready.

‘It looks from his face that it’s good,’ Guardiola added. ‘It was a scare, we’ll see in the next days how he reacts.

‘We’ll celebrate on the plane and then Goodison Park is probably not the best place to come back.

‘Today you are here and tomorrow you’re in the river. We’ll come back again.’

Phil Foden, who scored City’s third of the night, said: ‘I’m so delighted. It’s all down to the team and the manager as well. It’s such a great side and we love winning trophies.

‘It was the first time we’re here and we want to do that again now and try and repeat what we’ve done. It’s been an unbelievable journey and we want to continue winning.’
