The White House was placed under lockdown following reports of approximately 30 gunshots fired on Saturday in the vicinity of the executive residence.
Journalists in the area noted the sound of several gunshots echoing near the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.

In response to the incident, the U.S. Secret Service instructed reporters to “get down” as they were quickly moved to the safety of the James S. Brady Press Briefing Room located in the West Wing.
Secret Service personnel were observed on the premises with their firearms drawn, prepared for any potential threat.

Hours before the alleged gunfire rang out, President Donald Trump announced the administration was close to finalizing a deal to end the war with Iran, noting he was in the White House Oval Office.
