Whoopi Goldberg isn’t hesitant to set The View’s executive producer Brian Teta straight when he tries to make light of her and her fellow co-hosts.
In the latest episode of the long-standing daytime talk show, the panel delved into the possibility of artificial intelligence (AI) supplanting white-collar jobs. Despite Teta’s job fitting into that category, he found solace in one factor safeguarding his position.
“I assumed my job was secure because what computer could cope with you guys?” he joked with the Hot Topics panel, prompting Goldberg to retort, “You work an hour a day! What are you talking about?”
Attempting to soften the blow, Joy Behar joked, “But that is some hour.”
Teta, however, realized he might have more to fear about computers taking over his job in the future after asking an AI program how to calm down Behar when she’s in a bad mood. According to the longtime EP, the answer he got was “shockingly good.”
“It said, ‘Lead with humor. But don’t go with slapstick or corny jokes.’ She doesn’t like those,” he read. “‘Let her vent. Occasionally nod, listen, and say, you’re absolutely right,’ which is one of my moves. ‘Bring up politics but only if you’re aligned with her, otherwise run away. Compliment her standup past.’ She likes that. ‘And then finally, hand her a cannoli.’”
Teta then brought a tray of cannolis to Behar, who exclaimed, “Yes! Now you’re talking!”
The comedian, who seemed pleasantly surprised (and some may say impressed) with the response, joined Teta in shutting down the idea of AI taking over her job someday.
“They can’t replace us,” she said, before playfully adding, “Not this hair color, anyway.”
The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
