J6 Redux? Speaker Johnson Announces New House Subcommittee, and the Legacy Media Grudgingly Reports It

Amidst the torrent of shocking headlines and the investigation into the Charlie Kirk assassination, alongside the 24th anniversary of 9/11, an important update was overlooked in the fast-paced news cycle.

On Wednesday, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) announced the formation of a new select subcommittee to investigate the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021. This subcommittee will likely also examine the previous Jan. 6 select committee, which was led by Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) and former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.).

Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.) will chair the upcoming select subcommittee, which will be housed within the House Judiciary Committee.

Loudermilk has been conducting his own investigation into the January 6 events through the House Administration Committee and has been urging Johnson to create a separate entity for this inquiry.

Being classified as a “select” subcommittee means Johnson will have the sole official power to decide which members sit on the panel.

As reported by RedState in July, this continuation is not a new development but rather unfinished business hindered by former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her sharply focused, Hollywood-style presentation.

Read It Here: Heeding Trump’s Call, GOP Launches New Subcommittee Targeting Democrats’ Biased January 6 Smear Campaign

Similar to the narratives around the Russia collusion allegations and Hunter Biden’s laptop, mainstream media have fiercely defended their established storylines. Consequently, this update has been sparingly covered, with a hint of skepticism, as various headlines and introductions suggest.

From POLITICO: It’s part of a broader effort among Republicans to rewrite the memory of what happened that day.

Rewrite the memory? How about present facts that counter the memory of that day that this same media and Democrats wanted to embed as fact?

Consider NBC News: Congress previously investigated Jan. 6 and the efforts by Trump and his allies to overturn the 2020 election when Democrats controlled the House.

The Washington Post didn’t try to pretend, positing the move as Republican dirty tricks that allowed a subcommittee to be formed at all.

The beat goes on.

As my colleague Katie Jerkovich reported, Democrat Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) has assembled his clown car of Democrat reps to be on the committee, chief among them: Jasmine Crockett (D-TX), Jared Moskowitz (D-FL), and Eric Swalwell (D-CA), who are probably cheaper than actual comedians.

The question is, with these three drama queens on this subcommittee, will any actual investigation get done? Johnson said in a statement that the work of overturning false narratives and digging deeper into the security breaches would continue, as The Hill’s report linked above went on:

“House Republicans are proud of our work so far in exposing the false narratives peddled by the politically motivated January 6 Select Committee during the 117th Congress, but there is still more work to be done,” Johnson said in a statement. “We are establishing this Select Subcommittee to continue our efforts to uncover the full truth that is owed to the American people.”

Loudermilk in a statement said he hoped to “uncover all the facts and begin the arduous task of making needed reforms to ensure this level of security failure may never happen again.”

But beyond security concerns, Republicans have been eager to continue investigating the original Jan. 6 select committee, with which Republican leadership refused to participate or cooperate.

The last sentence is totally on brand for legacy media. We’re old enough to remember when Nancy Pelosi rejected Republican representatives Jim Banks (R-IN) and Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), who then-Republican Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy had chosen, and instead appointed faux Republicans Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) and Liz Cheney (R-WY). Remember them? Nobody does.

Dive Deeper: Pelosi Puts the Nail in Her Jan. 6 Committee With Latest Action

The American people are particularly testy and weary of yet another subcommittee, especially if is simply another dog and pony show to make it appear someone is doing something. So, if Johnson and Loudermilk are reading the room correctly, they have plans to see that actual accountability happens.

Some possible first steps: release ALL the Capitol video footage and bring charges against Lt. Michael Byrd for the murder of Ashli Babbitt. While Babbitt’s family chose the $5 million settlement with the U.S. government for her wrongful death, many of the American people and the J6 prisoners who suffered under the false narrative peddled are still desirous to see justice served.
