The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said the shooting followed an altercation between a man and a woman.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A woman was taken into custody early Sunday after authorities say she shot and killed a man on Jacksonville’s Northside, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
JSO Sgt. Johnny Cooke said officers were called to the 800 block of Calvert Street at about 3:57 a.m. after receiving a report of a shooting.
When police arrived, Cooke said they found a 40-year-old man lying outside on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators said the man had been involved in a dispute with a woman in her mid-30s. Witnesses told officers that during the confrontation, the woman produced a firearm and shot him.
Cooke said the woman left the area after the shooting but was found nearby a short time later and arrested.
Authorities said the man and woman were acquainted, though the exact nature of their relationship has not yet been determined.
“There were multiple individuals detained at the scene, and detectives are speaking with witnesses and getting statements at this time,” Cooke said. “We do believe that this is an isolated incident.”
