A troubling incident unfolded late Sunday night at the Pointe Grand on Main apartment complex in Jacksonville’s Northside, where a woman has been detained following a domestic altercation that escalated into violence. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) reported the shooting, which took place in the complex’s breezeway.
Authorities received a call around 11:33 p.m. concerning the incident at 11833 North Main St. Upon arrival, officers encountered the woman who admitted to shooting her boyfriend during the dispute, as conveyed by JSO Sgt. Johnson. She was promptly taken into custody by the responding officers.
The male victim, reportedly in his late 20s, suffered a gunshot wound to his left side. He was subsequently transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. Fortunately, his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
Sgt. Johnson provided further details on the situation, explaining that an investigation revealed the altercation between the couple had turned physical before the woman resorted to using a firearm. After being shot, the victim managed to flee the scene on foot and was eventually found by police officers as he walked along North Main St.
The woman’s boyfriend, who had been shot in his left side, according to JSO, was taken to a local hospital. Johnson said he is in his late-20s.
“The initial investigation revealed there was a domestic dispute between the victim and suspect, that turned physical,” Johnson said. “During the physical dispute, the suspect shot the victim at least one time. The victim then fled on foot, when he was contacted by police walking down N. Main St.”
Johnson added that the incident occurred in the breezeway of the apartment complex, and that the woman is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
