According to the state’s attorney’s office, Monette entered the store around 7:20 p.m. on Wednesday. Surveillance footage reportedly captured her taking a can of camping fuel from the camping supplies aisle and placing it in her cart. She then proceeded to the baby and infant section of the store.

In a shocking turn of events, Monette returned to the camping aisle to grab an additional can of fuel, which she then used to douse several cribs in the baby section. She allegedly set them ablaze before hastily leaving the premises.

Although Monette managed to flee the scene initially, Woodstock police were able to track her down using her vehicle’s registration information.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported. However, the incident did cause panic as both shoppers and staff were evacuated. Fire officials confirmed that the store’s sprinkler system successfully extinguished the flames, preventing further damage.

Officials estimate that the fire caused more than $10,000 in damage. The store will be closed again Friday.

Monette is charged with felony aggravated arson.

She also has a pending arson charge out of Colorado, for which she was placed on supervised release pending trial, the state’s attorney’s office said.

Monette is due back in court on Wednesday.
