Zachary was only eight years old when he vanished from his home in Clearwater.
CLEARWATER, Fla. — In the early hours of September 11, 2000, eight-year-old Zachary Bernhardt mysteriously disappeared. Over the past two and a half decades, his case has remained the focal point of Florida’s most enduring Amber Alert.
While his case remains unsolved, Clearwater police said its detectives are still committed to finding out what happened to the boy.
“Someone out there knows something or has information that could help solve this case,” the department wrote in a post on Thursday.
Bernhardt was last seen at his home, an apartment at 2690 Drew St. in Clearwater.
His family has been fighting for his safe return ever since.
“There’s always a possibility he might return. If he comes back tomorrow, it could bring either positive or negative outcomes. We must be ready for either scenario,” expressed his aunt, Billie-Jo Jimenez, in an earlier conversation.
Using age progression technology, authorities created an image of what Bernhardt could look like now as a 33-year-old man.
