Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy issued a statement commending President Donald Trump on his efforts to negotiate peace and urging direct discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“We recognize and back President Trump’s initiatives to end Russia’s conflict, halt the bloodshed, and secure a dignified, lasting peace. We are grateful to all global supporters of peace efforts who assist in saving lives,” Zelenskyy stated on X.
“We are aware of who makes the decisions in Russia and who must terminate this conflict. The entire world understands this as well. Ukraine urges moving past the exchange of statements and technical-level meetings to leader-led discussions. The United States has suggested this, and Ukraine is in favor. What’s essential is Russia’s willingness,” added the Ukrainian president.

“Our backing of Ukraine’s defense is incomparable to the supply of arms and materials to Russia, which enables its extensive invasion and occupation of Ukrainian land,” said Kelley. “Last week, we urged all UN member states to cease any support for Russia’s war efforts to help end the conflict. We reiterate this call today.”
The American diplomat specifically identified North Korea, China, and Iran as nations that have directly or indirectly supported Russia. He highlighted that although Beijing has not directly supplied Moscow with weapons, it has been a “key enabler” by serving as the “main supplier for Russia’s war industrial apparatus.”

It seems unlikely that Russia would come to the negotiating table as it carried out a deadly airstrike against Kyiv and its representatives at the U.N. appeared to double down on Moscow’s desire to retake Ukraine.
“We are not seeking to destroy [Ukraine], its culture or its identity. We would like Ukrainian [and] Russian cultures coexist in this country, as it used to be for decades without any problems or conflicts,” Russia’s Mission to the U.N. wrote on X.
In the early hours of Thursday, Russia launched more than 300 drones and eight missiles that hit residential areas in Kyiv. On Friday, Ukraine mourned after 31 were killed in the strike, which was the deadliest air attack carried out by Moscow this year. The death toll includes five children, one of whom was just two years old, according to Reuters. Additionally, more than 150 people were wounded, including 16 children.
