Miffed Zohran Mamdani scrapped CBS interview over Bari Weiss’ social media post: report

Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s communications team reportedly canceled an interview with CBS News due to a contentious social media post by Bari Weiss, the network’s newly appointed editor-in-chief.

Despite the socialist mayor’s initial hesitance, discussions were underway for him to appear on “CBS News Sunday Morning” with Robert Costa. This reluctance stemmed from previous unfavorable coverage by Weiss’ past project, The Press, according to Vanity Fair.

However, negotiations were abruptly halted on February 28 when Weiss shared a post on X featuring Iranian activist Masih Alinejad criticizing Mamdani, adding a fire emoji to her reaction.

Sources revealed to Vanity Fair that this social media interaction was the final straw that led to the decision against Mamdani’s appearance on the network.

“Bari and her team clearly have issues with him,” a former CBS producer reportedly mentioned, as cited in the Vanity Fair article.
