Olympic sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson found herself in legal trouble in Florida on Thursday, accused of driving at excessive speeds exceeding 100 mph.

The 25-year-old athlete was apprehended near Orlando and subsequently detained at the Orange County Jail, facing charges related to reckless speeding. Reports from NBC affiliate WESH indicated she was recorded driving at 104 mph on State Road 429.

An Orange County Sheriff’s Office representative informed TMZ that Richardson was observed “dangerously tailgating and weaving between lanes to overtake other vehicles.”

Following her arrest, Richardson posted a $500 bond and was released from custody.

In a previous incident last summer, Richardson faced arrest after an alleged altercation with her boyfriend, fellow athlete Christian Coleman, at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Charged with fourth-degree domestic violence assault, the case was eventually dismissed when Coleman opted not to pursue charges. Richardson later issued an apology via social media.

At the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, Richardson achieved a gold medal in the 4×100-meter relay with Team U.S. and earned a silver medal in the women’s 100-meter event.

After initially qualifying for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, she was later disqualified after testing positive for THC during a post-race drug test. She admitted to using cannabis and accepted a one-month suspension from the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency.
