WASHINGTON — The White House on Monday lashed out at former special counsel Jack Smith after photos and video surfaced showing him at a Maryland concert over the weekend wearing a “No Kings” T-shirt.
“Jack Smith is a scumbag who was the partisan attack rat for Democrats who weaponized the justice system against President Trump for political purposes,” White House communications director Steven Cheung wrote on X, reacting to images of the prosecutor who filed two criminal cases against Trump before the 2024 election.
Cheung added, “Don’t think they won’t go after innocent Americans again if they get their way.”

The images showed the 57-year-old Smith making his way to a seat at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Md., while holding a beer. In some footage, he appeared to be wearing a Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band shirt.
Smith appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee last week to testify about the FBI’s “Arctic Frost” investigation. The probe preceded his indictments of Trump over efforts to overturn the 2020 election and the former president’s retention of national security documents at Mar-a-Lago.
“I am not a politician and I have no partisan loyalty,” Smith said in his opening statement. “My career has been dedicated to serving our country by upholding the rule of law and the core principles upon which our country was founded.”
The Saturday “Power to the People” concert lineup included Springsteen, the Foo Fighters, Public Enemy, Dave Matthews and Joan Baez, along with several other performers.
