Woman shoots video of charging bear encounter while taking her dog for a morning walk

A woman out walking her dog in a wooded area of Canada recently had a terrifying encounter with a large bear, capturing the tense moments in a phone video that has since gone viral.

In the footage, the woman can be heard repeatedly yelling, “No! Go away,” while making loud noises in an effort to scare the animal off. Still, the bear continued trailing her along the road.

The bear initially moved toward her slowly, but the situation quickly escalated when it began charging and circling as she backed away, screaming for the animal to leave her and her dog alone.

For nearly two nerve-racking minutes, the bear repeatedly rushed forward before retreating, at times rising onto its hind legs and showing just how large it was.

The woman eventually managed to divert the bear’s attention by tossing what appeared to be her water bottle behind a gate.

The video cuts off as she hurries away while the bear turns to inspect the object she threw.

According to Wilderness Escape Adventures in Alberta, which said on TikTok that it interviewed the woman, she had just picked up her morning coffee and intended only to take a brief walk with her dog near the campsite where she was staying with others.

The encounter began shortly after she grabbed her dog’s leash and started making her way back toward camp, the group said.

The woman stayed calm during the encounter and didn’t run from the bear until it had moved away from her.

Experts say to never run from a bear because it can trigger their predatory instincts and bears can outrun humans at up to 35 mph.
