In a tragic incident in Sydney’s north-west, a provisional driver has been taken into custody following a fatal crash that claimed the life of a pregnant woman. The collision occurred last night on George Street in Hornsby, around 8 PM.

The 33-year-old woman, who was eight months pregnant, was walking with other pedestrians along the footpath near a car park entrance when the accident happened. A Kia Carnival had halted to allow the group to cross safely, but it was suddenly rear-ended by a white BMW driven by a P-plate holder.

Emergency services quickly arrived on the scene, and paramedics provided urgent care to the woman. She was rushed to Westmead Hospital in critical and unstable condition. Despite their efforts, both the woman and her unborn baby tragically could not be saved.

The community is left in mourning as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding this devastating event.

The woman was walking along the footpath crossing at the entrance of a car park with other pedestrians.

A Kia Carnival stopped to let the pedestrians cross, but a white BMW driven by a P-plater slammed into the back of it.

The Kia Carnival then struck the 33-year-old woman.

The force pushed the woman to the ground.

The 19-year-old male driver of the white BMW and a 48-year-old male driver of a silver Kia Carnival station wagon were uninjured.

Both drivers were taken to Hornsby Hospital for mandatory testing.

A crime scene was established shortly after.

About 12.45am today, the 19-year-old BMW driver was arrested at a home on Millewa Avenue in Wahroonga.

He was taken to Hornsby Police Station, where inquiries are ongoing.
