The positive cases were all found in mosquitoes, and there are currently no reported human cases of the virus.

GLYNN COUNTY, Ga. — Authorities in Glynn County are implementing precautionary steps and notifying residents about the discovery of the West Nile virus in the Brunswick area.

On Friday, Glynn County Public Works received a report from the mosquito control contractor that several mosquito samples in the county tested positive for the virus. This included areas such as Blythe Island Regional Park, the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, the Georgia-Pacific Paper Mill, and New Castle Street.

The positive cases were all found in mosquitoes and there are currently no reported human cases of the virus.

The Georgia Coastal Health District has been notified about the positive cases.

In response to the positive tests, the county is increasing mosquito control efforts.

In response, officials are actively examining and treating known mosquito breeding grounds to control the insect population at its initial stages. They are setting traps and conducting spraying operations, with aerial spraying planned for Monday.

The measures will be in place until the mosquito population returns to a “safe level,” officials said.

“The Glynn County Public Works and Vector Disease Control International are committed to closely monitoring upcoming test results and will communicate any further positive cases to the community,” stated officials in a press release on Friday.
