WINTER HAVEN, Fla.- The Winter Haven Police Department is inviting residents to safely dispose of unwanted medications and confidential documents at their upcoming “Purge Your Pills & Shred Your Stuff” event.

This free community service will take place on Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the parking lot of the police department, located at 125 N. Lake Silver Drive, NW.

This popular annual event is being held in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, offering a convenient and secure way for citizens to get rid of expired or unused prescription and over-the-counter medications.

Proper disposal of these medications helps prevent accidental misuse, addiction, and environmental contamination.

In addition to medication collection, the event will also offer free document shredding services. Residents are encouraged to bring any sensitive documents they wish to have securely destroyed, such as old bank statements, medical records, and other personal information.

The Winter Haven Police Department says that this event is for residents only; no businesses will be permitted to participate.

There is no limit to the amount of medications or documents an individual can bring for disposal. However, please note that electronics will not be accepted at this event.
