Toni Stone was a baseball pioneer and a female pro baseball trailblazer.

She was also the first woman to play professional baseball, and she served as an inspiration to many female athletes. Stone is remembered for overcoming gender and racial prejudices to become the first woman to play professional baseball in a men’s major league.

Toni Stone was the first woman to play professional baseball full-time, joining the Indianapolis Clowns in the all-men Negro American League. played with the minor-league New Orleans Creoles from 1949 to 1952. Later, she played for the Kansas City Monarchs while the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League was informally segregated.

She was one of the first three women to play full-time pro baseball for the Indianapolis Clowns in the previously all-male Negro leagues, having been born in Bluefield, West Virginia.

On the occasion of Black History Month, Stone is remembered once more through a Google Doodle for her unwavering love and dedication to baseball, as well as her breaking of stereotypes.
