Peaches is a renowned Canadian electronic musician, producer, director, visual artist, and performance artist. Merrill Nisker, better known by her stage name Peaches was born on November 11, 1966, in Toronto, Ontario, into a Jewish family. Not much is known about her parents, however, her maternal grandparents were Polish immigrants who settled in Canada, while her paternal grandparents were from Ukraine.

With regards to her education, Peaches completed her schooling from a private Jewish school. Before rising to prominence for her music, Peaches used to work as a music and drama teacher at the ‘Associated Hebrew Schools of Toronto’.

Peaches began her musical career in the 1990s as part of a folk trio, Mermaid Cafe. She released her debut solo album, ‘Fancypants Hoodlum,’ in 1995, under her birth name and had she established a rock band named the Shit along with Chilly Gonzales, bassist Sticky, and Dominique Salole (aka Mocky) in the same year.

Peaches career has been filled with controversies yet successful for her. She won the 2015 Polaris Music Prize in the Heritage Award category for her full-length album The Teaches of Peaches that was released in 2000.
