What was John Gleeson of the Rugby League’s cause of death? Here are some crucial facts about him. 

John Gleeson was a former Australian Rugby League player who played in the 1950s and 1960s. 

He played club football with Chinchilla’s team, the All Whites club in Toowoomba, and the Wynnum-Manly and Brothers clubs in Brisbane, winning the BRL title in 1967.

Likewise, John was Kangaroo No. 391 during an impressive career that earned him initiation into the Queensland Sport Hall of Fame in 2013.

He managed to play 10 Tests for Australia and made a further 22 appearances in the green-and-gold jersey.

John Gleeson Rugby League: Cause of Death?

The cause of death for John Gleeson is unknown. Given his age, we believe he died due to natural causes. 

He passed away just days before his 83rd birthday. John was born on the 28th of December in the year 1938.

The 170 cm (tall) playmaker spent his whole career in Queensland, playing for Chinchilla, Toowoomba All Whites, Wynnum-Manly, Toowoomba Souths, and Brisbane Brothers, and was considered one of the top players in the world at the time.

Similarly, he was the first player from Wynnum-Manly Seagulls to be picked for the Kangaroos’ end-of-season tour. He was part of the team that won the Ashes for the first time in England in 1963-64, although his test debut came the following year against France.

In 1963-64 and 1967-68, Gleeson was chosen for two Kangaroo tours. In 1966, he made his test debut alongside Arthur Beetson for the rugby league Immortals against England at the SCG.

During his statewide career, which lasted from 1961 to 1967, he led Queensland eight times. In 1967 and 1968, John and his brothers won two Brisbane premier league titles.

After retiring, Gleeson stayed active in the game as president of the Chinchilla Bulldogs. He started his professional life there recently.

In 2008, Gleeson was named to the Toowomba ad South West Team of the Century, which was picked to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the game’s inception in Australia.
