Virginia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Abigail Spanberger pulled in a record-breaking $2.2 million at a McLean, Virginia fundraiser Monday—with Bill and Hillary Clinton as her star attractions.
The event, hosted by former Governor Terry McAuliffe at his home, drew more than 350 donors and became the ‘largest gubernatorial fundraiser in Virginia history,’ according to Politico.
But the Clintons’ appearance came with uncomfortable timing.
Bill Clinton was subpoenaed by House Republicans in August to testify about his ties to convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein on Tuesday. Hillary was also called to appear last week.
Though neither appeared for subpoenas on the dates originally requested by the committee in August, a source with the House Oversight Committee told the Daily Mail it is negotiating dates with Clinton attorneys, leaving the chances of testimony an open possibility.
The Democratic fundraiser came just days after Spanberger’s lackluster debate performance against Republican opponent Winsome Sears in the off-cycle gubernatorial race set for next month.
Vice President JD Vance weighed in on the Epstein subpoenas in August, telling Fox News: ‘The Democrats have tried to make this Epstein thing about anything but the fact that Democrat billionaires and Democrat political leaders went to Epstein island all the time.’
‘I know a lot of Americans want answers, I certainly want answers, and I think James Comer and the team in the House, they’re doing the right thing,’ Vance added, also noting that ‘we know Clinton allegedly went to Epstein’s infamous ‘island 26 times, 28 times.’

House Oversight Chairman James Comer issued the deposition subpoenas on August 5th, calling both Clintons to appear in October.
The Daily Mail has reached out for comment to a representative for the Clintons.
Several Trump-era DOJ officials including Attorneys General Bill Barr and Jeff Sessions were also subpoenaed over the Epstein files.
The full list of officials called to appear before House Oversight also includes Former US Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, Former FBI Director Robert Mueller, Former US Attorney General Loretta Lynch, Former US Attorney General Eric Holder, Former US Attorney General Merrick Garland, and Former FBI Director James Comey.
Comey’s subpoena was withdrawn on October 6th after he expressed that he did not have the ‘knowledge’ or ‘information relevant to the Committee’s investigation’ in a letter to Comer.
‘I offer this letter in lieu of a deposition that would unproductively consume the Committee’s scarce time and resources,’ Comey also noted in his letter.
A House petition to release the full Epstein files is expected to move forward in the coming weeks.
Democrat Representative Adelita Grijalva, who won a special election September 23rd to replace her late father Raúl Grijalva in Arizona’s 7th Congressional District, is expected to provide the final signature after being sworn in.
