First Lady Melania Trump joined President Donald Trump on the global stage Tuesday as they attended the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York City.
Melania arrived alongside the president in a tailored black suit. She stood nearby with a restrained smile as Trump spoke to reporters and criticized CNN correspondent Kaitlan Collins for attending, despite his decision to exclude the “fake news” network from the press pool.
“Melania arrived here showing what real first lady star status and elegance look like,” body-language expert Judi James told Our News Outlet. “Fiercely power-dressed in a tailored black suit with exaggerated shoulder padding and a cinched-in waist to create a dramatic outline, her white shirt featured a matching cravat neckline.”
The first lady led the couple up the escalator, with President Trump following behind.
Melania held the handrail as she ascended, while Trump did not, despite an incident last year when the escalator stopped suddenly.
James said Melania’s serious expression during the president’s major UN address reflected her loyalty and attentiveness.
Her demeanor changed when Trump mentioned her work on behalf of children during his speech. At that moment, she broke into a broad smile.
“Melania listened as he tried to thank her in the room, but she was clearly quietly purring behind the modest-looking wave,” James said. “Her cheeks rounded, and a smile of delight and pride slowly spread across her face.”

Later Tuesday, the first lady hosted 57 spouses of world leaders at an event highlighting her signature initiative, Fostering the Future Together.
The gathering took place at the St. Regis hotel in New York City.
Representatives from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, South Korea, the Philippines, Poland, Ukraine, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Panama, Canada and other nations attended the event.
“Together, we are a beautiful range of cultures, languages, histories, and traditions. And yet, we stand unified around one everlasting truth: the future of our world will be determined by what we do for our children today,” Melania said.
She called on the spouses of world leaders to help empower young people through technology, artificial intelligence and education.
“When nations speak with one voice, the world listens. Our collective influence is profound. Together, we can open doors, move markets, shape policy. And most importantly, we can change lives for the better,” she said.
Fostering the Future Together is focused on supporting children through education and technology. The initiative works with private companies around the world to provide resources for young people.
The first lady invited spouses of world leaders to join her effort to support children.

Trump announced Monday that the effort had secured seven new technology-sector partnerships to benefit children including Adobe, Amazon, Intel, Starlink, Google, and Zoom.
Apple executive chairman Tim Cook was present at the event as well as Enrique Lores, CEO of PayPal.
The event is part of a full scale of events for the first lady surrounding the United Nations General Assembly.
On Wednesday, Trump will ring the Opening Bell at the New York Stock Exchange and launch the IMPERIA initiative for female CEOs and C-Suit members.
