In a recent revelation, lawmakers disclosed that Jeffrey Epstein had connections with a high-ranking official from a foreign government. This announcement was made after examining redacted documents. During a press conference held on Monday, Representatives Thomas Massie, a Republican, and Ro Khanna, a Democrat, indicated that six individuals might be implicated based on the evidence they reviewed. The two have been at the forefront of efforts to make the Epstein Files public since last July, advocating for the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which gained approval and was enacted by President Trump. Despite this legislative victory, the battle for full disclosure continues as the Department of Justice released over 3 million Epstein documents on January 30, most of which remain heavily censored.
Lawmakers Flag ‘High-Level’ Foreign Figure in Epstein Files
Massie, representing Kentucky, revealed to the press that these files mention a person occupying a significant position within a foreign government. He called on Donald Trump’s Justice Department to rectify their errors. Among the files shared by Massie, one features 18 redactions, including four men born before 1970. For the first time, Congress members had the opportunity to view the unredacted files by visiting a Department of Justice facility in Northeast Washington, DC, where they accessed them using DOJ computers. Representative Jamie Raskin, a Democrat from Maryland who also visited the DOJ site, noted that the documents included accounts of several previously unreported young victims.
“When you go through these files, you encounter stories of girls as young as 15, 14, and even 10. Today, I even saw a reference to a 9-year-old girl. It’s utterly outrageous and scandalous,” Raskin stated. Regarding the mention of a 9-year-old, it remains uncertain whether Raskin was referencing an email with a formatting error. Meanwhile, Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s long-time associate, invoked the Fifth Amendment, refusing to answer questions about Epstein during a closed-door session with the House Oversight Committee. The incarcerated British socialite participated virtually for less than an hour as part of the bipartisan congressional investigation into the Justice Department’s handling of the Epstein case.
Epstein Fallout Raises Alarms for the British Monarchy
Speaking with reporters on CapitolHill following Maxwell’s depositions earlier on Monday, Khanna also warned that the fallout from the Jeffrey Epstein scandal could pose a serious threat to the British monarchy, arguing that the controversy extends far beyond individual wrongdoing and into the heart of the UK’s political and social establishment. Khanna said the Epstein case has exposed what he described as a culture of elite impunity, suggesting the monarchy is facing an unprecedented moment of vulnerability. ‘This is the most vulnerable the British monarchy has ever been,’ Khanna said, adding that the scandal could possibly bring about its downfall.
Khanna pointed specifically to Prince Andrew’s association with Epstein, as well as the involvement of prominent political figures such as Peter Mandelson, the former UK ambassador in DC, arguing that the release of Epstein-related files reveals a protected network of powerful individuals who have long escaped accountability. According to Khanna, symbolic actions such as removing royal titles do not amount to meaningful accountability. He also called out the silence from senior figures and said that King Charles III has a responsibility to address what he knew about the matter and when.
Khanna warned that if the British monarchy were to collapse under the weight of the Epstein revelations, the consequences would not be limited to the United Kingdom. He said the scandal threatens to expose a broader transatlantic elite class, with implications reaching well beyond the royal family.
