Trump family crypto investments net millions while investors suffer steep losses and company sheds name

A major cryptocurrency-linked venture tied to the Trump family has generated substantial gains for the First Family, even as ordinary investors have been hit with steep losses.

Last August, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump appeared at the Nasdaq stock exchange in New York, promoting a new alliance with ALT5 Sigma, a little-known company operating in the digital finance space.

ALT5, a small digital payments business with fewer than two dozen employees and a past marked by legal troubles, suddenly found itself connected to one of the most powerful political families in the United States.

The arrangement was presented as a way for investors to gain broader exposure to World Liberty Financial, or WLF, a cryptocurrency venture associated with the Trump and Witkoff families. ALT5 later bought $1.5 billion worth of WLF tokens.

Among those positioned to profit were President Donald Trump, his sons, Special Envoy and longtime business associate Steve Witkoff, and Witkoff’s son Zach, who helped co-found World Liberty Financial.

Financial disclosures released by Trump earlier this year indicated that the President and certain unnamed family members were eligible to receive roughly $500 million from proceeds connected to the deal.

But within months, ALT5’s market fortunes reversed sharply. Its stock has fallen more than 90 percent, erasing value for investors who bought in during the hype. After the share price slid far below $1, the company faced the threat of removal from the Nasdaq exchange.

The firm has since rebranded as AI Financial Corporation, but its financial struggles have continued.

‘Neither Eric nor Don have any involvement in ALT5, nor have any visibility to the company,’ a spokesperson for the two Trump brothers said in a statement to Bloomberg.

‘Neither have ever been on the board, know anything about the leadership team or have ever been involved in their operations.’

Despite their alleged noninvolvement, both Trump brothers were prominently featured at the August 2025 Nasdaq event celebrating ALT5 and WLF’s deal.

‘We’re going to change finance forever, it’s that simple,’ Eric Trump said at the event.

‘World Liberty and ALT5 were the tip of the spear, were the fastest growing stablecoin anywhere on Earth … what we’re going to do with this company is amazing.’

Don and Eric were also photographed in New York’s Times Square pointing at a billboard with ALT5’s branding.

The month before the deal with WLF was announced, ALT5 was valued at around $100 million. Shortly after, it skyrocketed to over $1 billion.

However, its investment in WLF’s crypto turned out to be a bad investment. Those tokens have dropped in price nearly 80 percent since they began trading.

It has had three CEOs and three outside auditors since last August. It has also suffered legal woes, including one of ALT5’s executives being found liable for money laundering by a Rwandan court in May 2025.

AI Financial is currently valued around $60 million.

The company did not immediately respond to the Daily Mail’s request for comment.

Much of the President’s earnings last year came from his family’s crypto ventures, in which he secured more than $1.4 billion, according to his financial disclosures released this year.

Trump earned more than $580 million from crypto-related activities, including approximately $515 million tied to token sales from WLF.

He also made about $65 million from equity sales associated with the firm and another $635 million from the sale of his $TRUMP meme coins.

White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly said in a statement that the President’s holdings are ‘held in fully discretionary accounts managed by independent third-party financial institutions.’

David Wachsman, spokesman for World Liberty Financial, said in a statement: ‘While the digital asset industry is currently in a downturn that is affecting many public equities with crypto treasuries including Strategy Inc., the first and largest, we are confident in the long-term value of the WLFI governance token and have recently taken steps alongside our community to ensure a healthy market supply for years to come.’
