Donald Trump shared a photo of JD Vance’s newborn son after the vice president and his wife, Usha Vance, welcomed their fourth child over the weekend.
“Congratulations! A perfect baby boy for the wonderful Vance family,” Trump wrote in a post on Monday.
The image showed baby Alec Neel Vance being held by his six-year-old brother, Vivek, with his four-year-old sister, Mirabel, beside them.
The Vance family announced Alec’s birth on Sunday, a moment that also marked a rare milestone for the executive branch: the first time in 156 years that a sitting vice president has had a child while in office.
The most recent instance came in 1870, when Schuyler Colfax, who served as vice president under Ulysses S. Grant, and his wife, Ellen, welcomed a son.
“Usha and the baby are happy and healthy, and our kids are overjoyed to meet their little brother,” Vance wrote on X.
He also expressed gratitude to “the incredible military doctors and staff members of Walter Reed Medical Center and the White House Medical Unit,” calling their care a “blessing.”
“We are deeply thankful for all they have done for our family,” he added.

Usha, 40, and JD, 41, first announced that they were expecting their fourth child in January.
Vance revealed in his memoir Communion this year that the couple had decided against more children because of the pressures of public life, until the assassination of his close friend Charlie Kirk last fall changed Usha’s mind.
‘Something changed for Usha, and not long after we buried my friend, she became pregnant with our fourth child, a boy. One life was stolen from us, but another was given,’ he wrote.
Usha has said Erika Kirk’s regret about not having more children with her murdered husband was ‘very powerful’ but not the deciding factor.
‘I think I had already started to open my mind to the possibility,’ she told CBS Sunday Morning.
The Vances met at Yale Law School, where both graduated in 2013, and married a year later in Kentucky with interfaith ceremonies honoring her Hindu faith and his Christianity.

Their pairing has long fascinated Washington. Usha is the daughter of Indian immigrant academics and was raised Hindu in San Diego, while Vance chronicled his chaotic Ohio childhood and his mother’s addiction in his 2016 bestseller Hillbilly Elegy.
Usha built the more gilded legal resume of the two, clerking for Brett Kavanaugh on the federal appeals court and then Chief Justice John Roberts at the Supreme Court, before quitting her law firm when her husband joined the Trump ticket in 2024.
Alec joins Ewan, nine, Vivek and Mirabel, and caps a baby boom inside the administration.
Press secretary Karoline Leavitt had her second child in May and deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller’s wife Katie recently delivered their fourth.
