Tucker Carlson has sparked a backlash from conservative voices after hosting a particularly contentious interview with Nick Fuentes, known for his polarizing views.
Fuentes, a figure who has stirred much debate on the right, is notorious for his controversial statements on race and gender. At 27, he has gained notoriety for his frequent anti-Israel sentiments and for making anti-Semitic remarks, including a disturbing comparison of the Holocaust to baking cookies.
In an interview released on Monday night, the former Fox News anchor engaged with Fuentes, who is also known for his critical stance on Israel.
During the conversation, Carlson expressed disagreement with Fuentes on various topics, such as identity politics and the dynamics between men and women.
Despite their differences, they found common ground in their disdain for conservatives they label as ‘Christian Zionists,’ referencing individuals like Mike Huckabee and Ted Cruz.
Carlson noted, “How do you explain Mike Huckabee, Ted Cruz, and others like John Bolton? I’ve known them personally—people like George W. Bush and Karl Rove—who seem to be affected by this mindset, yet they aren’t Jewish.”
‘Most of them are self-described Christians. And then the Christian Zionists who are, well, Christian Zionists. Like, what is that? And I could just say for myself, I dislike them more than anybody.’
Carlson concluded, ‘Because it’s Christian heresy, and I’m offended by that as a Christian.’
Huckabee, who serves as Trump’s US ambassador to Israel, responded by claiming Carlson was not familiar with the Bible.
Tucker Carlson is receiving pushback from conservatives online for bashing ‘Christian Zionists’ during his interview with Nick Fuentes
US Ambassador Mike Huckabee responded to Carlson by claiming the former Fox News host was unfamiliar with the teachings of the Bible
Carlson claimed that anyone who describes themselves as a ‘Christian Zionist’ is practicing ‘Christian heresy’
‘Wasn’t aware that Tucker despises me,’ Huckabee wrote on X. ‘I do get that a lot from people not familiar with the Bible or history. Somehow I will survive the animosity.’
Huckabee, back in September at a pro-Israel conference, told a delegation of over 200 US lawmakers that Israel should be viewed as the ‘wife’ of the United States.
‘If you came to my house tonight for dinner and you came in and you said, ‘Oh, Mike, we like you. We really think the world of you. We just enjoy being with you. So excited to be here with you and have dinner with you,’ he said.
‘But your wife, we can’t stand her. We don’t like her a bit. I hope she’s not going to be at the table.’ I would say, ‘Well, she will be. You won’t be. Get out.’ Because if you were to insult my partner, you have insulted me.’
Other conservatives commentators likewise bashed Carlson with some claiming that Charlie Kirk was a self-described Christian Zionist.
‘Tucker is literally calling Charlie a Heretic whom he despised who also had a mind virus,’ wrote Brandon Tatum on X.
‘Charlie Kirk was a Christian Zionist. This is disgusting. Not to mention he is saying this while interviewing Nick Fuentes, a clear Trump hater and antisemite.’
A close personal friend to Kirk, Josh Hammer, also jumped in the online conversation to bash Carlson for sitting down with Fuentes.
‘The great Charlie Kirk is rolling in his grave right now,’ Hammer told his followers. ‘Simply despicable.’
Fuentes told Carlson that conservative radio show host Mark Levin helped radicalize him on the topic of race
Levin is a frequent critic of Carlson who he disagrees with on a variety of foreign policy issues, including US support for Israel
Kirk was one of the most outspoken supporters for Israel among right-wing evangelical Christian conservative leaders in the US. Before his passing, Kirk famously refused to not disinvite Carlson from a Turning Point conference despite pressure from the organization’s wealthy donors.
‘It’s been a little more than a month after he spoke at Charlie’s funeral, and here he is talking with one of America’s most prominent and noxious antisemites about how much he despises Christian Zionists,’ wrote conservative legal commentator Will Chamberlain
‘Tucker should be ashamed, this is a total betrayal.’
Earlier in the interview, Fuentes shares his backstory with Carlson and explains how he became radicalized as a young college student supporting Trump in 2016.
Fuentes claims that conservative radio host Mark Levin, a self-described Zionist, influenced his early views on race. He recalls that during high school, Levin was the first conservative commentator who made him think differently about the topic.
‘I listened to him every day… in high school. I was a fan. I loved his show. And I actually liked how he was kind of obnoxious and mean to his callers,’ Fuentes told Carlson. ‘I’ll never forget one show. He goes live and he says, “America’s becoming a majority non-white country. Does anybody think that’s a good idea?” And I was thinking to myself, yeah, that actually doesn’t sound so good.’
