Turkey’s First Lady has urged Melania Trump to speak up for Palestinian children after she wrote a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin about protecting Ukrainian youth.

Emine Erdoğan, wife of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğa, asked the US first lady to “extend the advocacy” to children in Gaza in a public message.

“I have faith that the important sensitivity you have shown for the 648 Ukrainian children … will be extended to Gaza as well,” Erdogan wrote in a letter shared by the Turkish presidency.

The Turkish first lady’s letter follows an official declaration from a global hunger monitor which determined Gaza and surrounding regions are suffering from famine.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu later dismissed the report as an “outright lie”.

Melania Trump said Putin “can singlehandedly restore” children’s “melodic laughter,” adding that “in protecting the innocence of these children, you will do more than serve Russia alone – you serve humanity itself.

The chief of staff for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked the US’ First Lady Melania Trump for calling on Russia’s President to save deported Ukrainian children.
