Harvey Weinstein trial ends in mistrial on final rape charge after jury foreman refuses to deliberate

The retrial of Harvey Weinstein came to an unexpected halt on Thursday when the jury foreman declined to participate in deliberations regarding the outstanding rape charge against the disgraced film producer.

Judge Curtis Farber of New York state declared a mistrial, with prosecutors pledging to retry Weinstein on the charge that the jury could not reach a consensus on, specifically the third-degree rape charge involving former actress Jessica Mann.

This unexpected conclusion followed the jury’s earlier unanimous decision, where Weinstein was found guilty of sexually assaulting one woman and not guilty regarding an assault of another incident from over ten years ago.

After the partial verdict was announced, Mann released a statement saying, “I would never lie about rape or use something so traumatic to hurt someone.”

“I didn’t speak up to ruin his life,” Mann said of Weinstein. “He did that. I spoke because mine matters.”

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
