In the early hours of Thursday morning, a significant accident unfolded in Denmark when two trains collided, triggering a swift and substantial emergency response. The incident took place near Hillerød, approximately 35 kilometers (22 miles) north of Copenhagen, around 6:30 a.m.

While the exact number of injuries remains uncertain, images from the scene depict the front ends of both trains severely damaged, yet remarkably, the carriages stayed upright along the tracks. This has raised questions about the potential impact on passengers.

Gribskov Mayor Trine Egetved addressed the situation via Facebook, confirming that some of the injured individuals were transported to hospitals by helicopter. She highlighted that the local rail line, the site of the collision, is a vital route for many residents, including schoolchildren and workers from the Gribskov area.

As authorities work to determine the full scope of the injuries and the cause of the crash, the incident has underscored the vulnerability of daily commuters who rely heavily on this rail line. The community remains on edge as they await further details and updates from the ongoing investigation.

Gribskov Mayor Trine Egetved, in a post on Facebook, said some of the injured were flown to the hospital.

She said the crash occurred on a local rail line that’s used by many Gribskov residents, employees and schoolchildren.

Other details were not available.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
