Alan Shearer has crticised Antony, stating that the Manchester United winger would be very difficult to play with.

Shearer says that he has some sympathy for United striker Rasmus Hojlund due to the fact that he has to play with Antony.

Newcastle legend Shearer described Antony as being too predictable and said that being in the same team as him would ‘do my nut in’.

‘Not only do the defenders know, so they can then set themselves. On the odd occasion if he did go down on the right hand side it might make it a little bit more difficult, but for a centre-forward it doesn’t half make it very difficult when he’s doing that.’

Antony has yet to score or provide an assist for United this season in 18 appearances across all competitions.

Despite his lack of end product, Antony remains a key figure for Erik ten Hag’s side and is regularly named in the starting lineup.

Antony produced a disappointing display in midweek as Manchester United lost to Bayern Munich, with their elimination from Europe confirmed.

The Brazilian featured in United’s goalless draw against Liverpool on Sunday but was again unable to find the net.

Antony became the second most expensive player in United’s history when he signed from Ajax for £82million in 2022.

However, Antony scored eight goals and registered just three assists in 44 appearances in all competitions last season.

In addition, since scoring against Nottingham Forest on April 16, the 23-year-old has one assist and no goals in 26 appearances for United.
