Arsenal legend Arsene Wenger believes his former side ‘have the capacity’ to win the Premier League title this season ahead of their huge clash with Manchester City on Sunday.

Title-chasing Arsenal are preparing for what could be the game of the season when they face reigning champions City at the Etihad in Gameweek 30’s headline fixture.

Former boss Wenger, whose 22 years in charge in north London were filled with trophies, backed his old side but admitted their final position will be determined by their performances in the run-in as Man City and Liverpool also hunt glory.

Asked if Arsenal have what it takes, he said: “I think so, yes. The next game will be a little decider because we go to Manchester City. City is always a difficult team to play but maybe not as dominant as they were last year at the moment, but that can always come. They know how to do it, they have the knowledge, they have been there.

“Arsenal has the capacity but they have to show they can do it now. I hope and I’m convinced they have learned from last year. Last year the tension got to them and they dropped in the final sprint.

“Maybe this year because they have two competitions to go for, they might be a bit more relaxed.”

Arsenal sit top of the Premier League table heading into Sunday’s match and will be hoping for a statement victory in their search for a first title since 2003/04.

Wenger won three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups as Arsenal manager and oversaw their ‘Invincibles’ season when the Gunners went unbeaten for a full campaign. He led the squad through 1,235 matches and remains Arsenal’s longest serving manager.
