It was yet another month of fine saves in the Premier League in January.

The men between the sticks kicked the new year off with some smart stops, using every inch of their frames to deny some of the league’s best attackers.

Here are the six saves that have made the January Castrol Save of the Month shortlist:

Martin Dubravka

Newcastle United may not have come away from Anfield with any points on New Year’s Day, but Martin Dubravka did his best to keep the Reds out for as long as he could.

The Slovakian goalkeeper was tested frequently by Liverpool’s attackers and produced a series of fine stops, including an outstretched leg that denied Darwin Nunez an opener from close range in the first half.

Dubravka was called into action once again during a visit from the champions Manchester City in January and was more than up to the task.

While he had used his feet to deny Nunez, Dubravka produced a fingertip save on this occasion, pushing Bernardo Silva’s well-struck effort on to the frame of his goal.

Jordan Pickford

Everton secured an impressive point at home to Aston Villa in mid-January and Jordan Pickford had a huge hand in the Toffees keeping a clean sheet.

The England international sprung to his left to deny Leon Bailey’s fierce near-post strike, keeping his side in the game with an instinctive stop.

Emiliano Martinez

In a battle of the goalkeepers at Goodison Park, Emiliano Martinez was in fine form himself at the other end during Aston Villa’s goalless draw with Everton.

In a save reminiscent of his heroics in the 2022 World Cup final, the Argentine denied Dominic Calvert-Lewin the opener by sticking out a strong right leg to rebuff the striker’s low drive.

Much like Newcastle’s Dubravka, Pickford has also been nominated twice for January’s Castrol Save of the Month award.

Pickford has been in inspired form this month, producing a stunning save at Craven Cottage to help his side to another shutout. The Everton stopper was met with Tosin Adarabioyo’s header, pushing the ball over the crossbar with an acrobatic leap to his right.

Djordje Petrovic

Liverpool’s relentless front line gave Djordje Petrovic plenty of work to do on the final day of January, but the Chelsea goalkeeper pulled off some fine saves at Anfield.

The most impressive of the bunch came from Nunez’s shot, the Serbian international getting down low to his left and flicking the Liverpool forward’s effort on to the post.
