Emma Hayes blasted the ‘embarrassing’ officiating that she claimed ‘robbed’ her Chelsea team of victory against Real Madrid in the Women’s Champions League.

Niamh Charles thought she had scored a 96th-minute winner, but it was ruled out for offside against Sam Kerr, who was deemed to be interfering with play.

‘We scored a legitimate goal with Niamh Charles three or four yards onside. It’s embarrassing,’ boss Hayes said. ‘I had to check why the goal was disallowed.

Hayes was also furious that Real were given a penalty shortly after Kerr put Chelsea 2-1 ahead.

Olga Carmona converted the spot-kick, awarded by referee Frida Klarlund after Jessie Fleming brought down Athenea Del Castillo, but replays showed the foul was outside the box.

‘I could see from the bench it was outside the box, so I’m absolutely shocked that those managing the game couldn’t see that.

‘I can’t remember the last time I’ve been in a game like that where two humongous decisions have gone against us.’

Carmona put Real ahead after 10 minutes before Charles levelled just before half-time. Kerr made it 2-1 in the 74th minute before Carmona’s penalty shortly after.
