AC Milan winger Christian Pulisic received death threats and further abuse on social media following his team’s heated 1-0 win over Lazio.

Lazio finished the game with just eight men, with the USMNT star involved in two of the three red cards for his opponents.

Following the game, Pulisic posted photos on Instagram of himself and the Milan team celebrating, which became inundated with the unsavory posts in the comment section.

Luca Pellegrini was sent off in the 67th minute following two yellow cards in quick succession. Both cards were the result of fouls against Pulisic.

Later on, Matteo Guendouzi was issued a straight red in stoppage time for reacting badly to a foul by the United States standout, who was also booked in the incident.

Guendouzi suffered some tugging at his jersey from Pulisic and retaliated, which resulted in both men receiving cards, although the American’s was a yellow rather than a straight red card.

Pulisic joined Milan from Chelsea in the offseason hoping to revive a flagging club career.

He has scored seven goals and provided six assists in 25 league matches and put together a solid first season in his new surroundings.

The hosts ended the match with eight players after defender Adam Marusic was also sent off following a challenge on Leao in stoppage time.

Lazio are the first Serie A side to receive three red cards in a single game since Palermo against Bologna in 2012.

Milan next face Empoli on March 10 after hosting Slavia Prague in their Europa League last-16 first leg on Thursday.

Lazio, who remain ninth in the league standings on 40 points having lost three out of their last four league games, take on Udinese on March 11.

Maurizio Sarri’s side travel to Bayern Munich in the Champions League last 16 on Tuesday with hopes of holding on to their 1-0 lead from the first leg.
