Convicted drug courier Aaron Macey has hit back after he was reportedly banned from the Sydney Roosters’ dressing room.

His presence inside the sheds at Allianz Stadium was flagged to the club by the NRL integrity unit earlier this month.

The Roosters acted quickly to ensure that Macey would no longer have access to the team’s core members, according to a report by the Sydney Morning Herald’s Danny Weidler.

Roosters chief operating officer Jarrod Johnstone was made aware of the matter by the integrity unit.

Chief executive Joe Kelly later admitted he was not aware of the situation until contacted by reporters.

The club has refused to provide further public comment, pointing to its strong stance on drugs and strict disciplinary standards.

The Daily Mail has contacted the Sydney Roosters and the NRL for comment.

Roosters chairman Nick Politis has spoken many times about maintaining a zero-tolerance position regarding drug use.

Macey, who has become a regular on the BTFU podcast with ex-footy stars Braith Anasta and Reni Maitua, has now addressed the controversy.

‘Thank you, everyone, for the kind messages and support today. It truly means a lot,’ he expressed following the release of the SMH article by reporter Danny Weidler.

‘Dear Danny Weidler at 9 News, thanks for the absolute rubbish piece of ‘journalism’ today, once again displaying your envy towards one of the hardest-working and most authentic individuals, Braith [Anasta].’

‘Using my past to take a stab at him. You also call yourself a Chooks fan but bring the club back in the media with a ribbish [sic] article.

‘It’s Grand Final week, maybe try doing something to uplift the game and not tear people down.’

It comes as Roosters star Victor Radley was suspended by the club for 10 matches after being implicated in alleged drug supply involving former teammate Brandon Smith

The fallout arrives during a turbulent period for the Roosters, with the team already grappling with Victor Radley’s drug scandal.

Radley was banned for 10 matches and stripped of 10 weeks’ pay by the club after police uncovered messages with an alleged drug dealer.

Court documents cite text messages revealing that Radley’s ex-teammate Brandon Smith is accused of illegally providing Radley with cocaine at Currimundi, located on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, on June 7.

The Queensland Police investigation led to Smith being charged with drug supply.

Macey also spoke out about the decisions that led to his imprisonment, and how he had turned his life around since then.

He was jailed for four and a half years in 2020 after being caught with 379 grams of cocaine while acting as a courier for a syndicate involving ex-Newcastle Knights NRL star Jarrod Mullen.

‘In 2018 I made a poor life decision and was punished for it and served my time,’ he said.

‘Since returning back to life I have worked hard to rebuild my life by starting a business where I have had incredible support by numerous, notable people and we work hard each week [providing] sporting fans great content weekly.

‘I also volunteer coaching kids grassroots rugby league to give back to the game I love.

‘I’m sure you [Weidler] are a perfect human, no mistakes in life and don’t associate with any undesirables.’

Radley’s penalty means he will forfeit around $150,000 of his annual Roosters salary, worth $750,000.

Smith’s matter has been adjourned. It will next be heard in the Southport Magistrates Court on October 9, with Smith’s appearance excused.
