‘The coach knows I have a contract until 2024’: Eden Hazard appears to rule out a move away from Real Madrid this summer as the Belgian admits he’s ‘desperate to show what I can do’ after three lean seasons in Spain

  • Eden Hazard has spent three seasons at Real Madrid since signing for £118m
  • Injuries have hampered the Belgian forward and he has struggled for form
  • The 31-year-old forward has scored just six goals in 66 games for Los Blancos
  • He now feels ‘really good’ and is ‘ready’ for Saturday’s Champions League final

Real Madrid’s Eden Hazard has ruled out a move away from the Spanish capital this summer, despite failing to make much of an impact at the club so far.

The 31-year-old arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu with high expectations in 2019 after a fruitful – if turbulent – spell at Chelsea that saw him score 110 goals in 352 appearances.

He signed for Real Madrid for £118million, the highest fee ever-paid for a Belgian player, in June 2019.

Injuries have limited the Belgian to just 66 appearances in three years and, when he has got on the pitch, Hazard has been below his best. He has only scored six Real Madrid goals.

Despite his woes in Spain, Hazard is hopeful of playing in the Champions League final against Liverpool in Paris on Saturday night and kicking on his career at Los Blancos from there.

He revealed in an interview with Het Laatse Nieuws that he is fully recovered and fit after having a plate removed from his ankle. He said: ‘The surgery went well. Everything is going well at the moment.’

‘I didn’t want to go too fast like last time. The coach understood my situation, as did the medical staff. We have worked well. Now I feel really good.

Hazard is hoping to make an impact in the upcoming Champions League final in Paris

‘I am ready just in time to play a part in the Champions League final. I am desperate to show everyone what I can do.’

He continued: ‘The coach knows that I still have a contract until 2024. My first three seasons at Real have not gone well.

‘It has always been a dream to play for Real. It still is.’

Saturday’s final will be an excellent test for the forward, who has so far managed just one goal in 23 appearances for Real Madrid.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side may need to recapture Hazard at his best if they are to see off Liverpool and lift the Champions League trophy in Paris this weekend.
