‘He slags me off EVERY week on the radio… it really f***s me off’: Gary Neville tears into Gabby Agbonlahor, calling ex-Aston Villa star a ‘cheeky b*****d’ for claiming he was his favourite opponent
- Gary Neville regularly marked Gabby Agbonlahor when he faced Aston Villa
- Agbonlahor has previously suggested on talkSPORT he loved facing Neville
- The ex-Man United star has now hit back at the ‘cheeky b*****d’ at a live show
Gary Neville has issued a swift putdown of ‘cheeky b******’ Gabby Agbonlahor having become irked by the talkSPORT pundit’s constant criticism.
Neville and Agbonlahor were familiar foes in their playing days when Manchester United took on Aston Villa and the ex-United star’s dislike came to light during a live recording of The Overlap in Dublin.
‘He slags me off every week on that radio show,’ Neville fumed, after Roy Keane had jokingly picked out Agbonlahor as his toughest ever opponent.
‘They tag me on Twitter and it really f***s me off, honestly.’
Agbonlahor has not won many friends since becoming a prominent voice in radio – with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp among his most vocal critics, along with Neville.

Agbonlahor has previously suggested he enjoyed playing against Neville while at Aston Villa
It is Agbonlahor’s claim that he enjoyed playing against former right back Neville that irked him the most, though.
‘He will be asked who was the player that you’d like to play against most and he’ll go, “You know what? It was Gary Neville at Manchester United.” You cheeky b*****d. You didn’t win one against us in 25 years!’
The 10,000-strong crowd, along with Keane and Jamie Carragher, thoroughly enjoyed Neville’s put down of the former England striker.
It is not the first time Neville has not minced his words when it comes to Agbonlahor.
During Sky Sports’ half-time analysis of Tottenham against Aston Villa in November 2015, Neville eviscerated Agbonlahor at the break.
‘Gabriel Agbonlahor as a centre forward… I had to check because this doesn’t look right,’ he said. ‘Eight touches in the first half…and 2 of them are kick-offs!’
And it is not just Gary Neville that has issues with the talkSPORT pundit – his brother Phil had a Twitter spat with him just last year.
The pair rowed online after the former Villa forward claimed the England squad was full of cliques and that David Beckham didn’t speak to anyone.
Phil Neville made 59 appearances for England between 1996 and 2007, while Agbonlahor won three caps from 2008 to 2009, meaning they were never around with the Three Lions at the same time.
Neville hit back that Agbonlahor never beat him in 25 attempts and those comments irk him
Last year Phil Neville slammed Agbonlahor after he claimed David Beckham didn’t speak to anyone when on international duty with England and that the squad was full of cliques
Neville claimed Agbonlahor’s recollection of his time with the England squad was ‘all BS!!!’
Agbonlahor then hit back at Neville and lambasted his managerial record with Inter Miami
Agbonlahor made the England squad on just five occasions, being part of a group that included several players from England’s ‘Golden Generation’ such as Rio Ferdinand, Beckham, Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard.
Phil Neville then shared the clip of Agbonlahor on Twitter and simply said: ‘ALL BS this!!!’
Agbonlahor later hit back at Neville on Twitter and said: ‘We get it Phil! Have ya bosses back!! U didn’t play for England after 2007?
‘Before I started going into England squads!! Maybe concentrate on winning a few games in the mls and get off Twitter.’
