Darren Moore has struggled badly since taking over at Huddersfield in late September, so the relief which greeted this rare but surprisingly emphatic victory was understandable.

Jaheim Headley opened the scoring in the first half before Sorba Thomas and Delano Burgzorg struck after the break to give Moore just his third win in 17 games as Terriers boss.

The former West Brom, Doncaster and Sheffield Wednesday manager has come under increased scrutiny in recent weeks.

This, though, was a performance and certainly a result to savour – and should keep Moore’s detractors at bay for now at least.

‘Can we play you every week?’ chorused the home faithful to a Blackburn side who failed to match Huddersfield’ energy in the second half as they fell to a pitiful defeat.

Jon Dahl Tomasson’s men began brightly during the opening exchanges, their slick passing through midfield threatening to cut the Terriers apart.

Yet Huddersfield steadied themselves and should have led in the fifth minute following a swift counter-attack.

Wales international Thomas latched onto Jack Rudoni’s pass before breaking inside the left channel and switching play to the right flank.

That led to David Kasumu crossing to the far post where Thomas was unmarked.

Time seemed to stand still as Thomas was afforded the space to control the ball just outside the six-yard box before smashing a poorly-executed half-volley over the crossbar.

Moments later, Blackburn fashioned a decent opportunity which saw Niall Ennis played in to space inside Huddersfield’s 18-yard box, only to fire low and hard into Chris Maxwell’s midriff.

In the 16th minute, the Terriers threatened when Thomas turned the ball goalwards from close range, drawing a smart stop from Rovers goalkeeper Leopold Wahlstedt.

Four minutes later, the visitors went close when Arnor Sigurdsson latched onto Sammie Szmodics’ lay-off and curled a right-foot shot narrowly over the crossbar from 20 yards.

In the 28th minute, Huddersfield broke the deadlock when Headley collected possession from Thomas inside the left channel.

With space in front of him, Headley tried his luck from the edge of Blackburn’s penalty box with a low, left-foot shot which squirmed under Wahlstedt.

The Terriers made an injury-enforced change in the 42nd minute when Maxwell departed to be replaced by debutant goalkeeper Jacob Chapman before Szmodics fired over from 20 yards in first-half added time.

Trailing 1-0 at the break, Rovers were expected to raise their game after the interval but instead it was Huddersfield who increased the tempo.

In the 55th minute, Burgzorg broke down the left flank and delivered a low, inviting cross into the six-yard box which Thomas arrived to fire home in clinical fashion.

That poured confidence into Moore’s players and it came as no surprise when they grabbed a third in the 68th minute as the impressive Rudoni won possession and found Koroma.

His unselfish pass played in the advancing Burgzorg, whose right-foot shot deflected into the net off a beaten Wahlstedt, sealing a fine win.

It was also the first time that Huddersfield had scored more than two goals since Moore arrived to succeed Neil Warnock three months ago.
