Jamie Carragher has responded to criticism from Jose Mourinho which resurfaced this week following the Liverpool legend’s controversial comments towards Kate Abdo.

While working for CBS Sports this week, Carragher made a joke at the expense of presenter Abdo which wasn’t very well received.

After Arsenal overcame Porto in the Champions League Carragher got Micah Richards to wear a Gunners shirt after he admitted to supporting the club when he was growing up.

Abdo refused to do so and said: ‘No, I’m loyal,’ before adding ‘to Manchester United, thank you very much’.

Carragher then said: ‘You’re not loyal to Malik’, in reference to Abdo’s boyfriend Malik Scott.

The comment certainly didn’t go down well, with Abdo saying ‘Why would you even say that?’.

Following the incident, a comment made by Jose Mourinho in 2015 when he was in charge of Chelsea has resurfaced.

Mourinho had criticised Carragher for talking too much for somebody who didn’t win the Premier League.

Mourinho said: ‘Jamie Carragher talks too much for someone who isn’t even among the top 1,000 defenders in football history.

‘How can someone who never won the Premier [League] talk about what it takes to win the Premier [League]?’.

Carragher has now responded by saying that he is trying to get Mourinho to come on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.

He wrote: ‘I’m currently trying to get him to come on MNF [Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football]!’.

Abdo looked to play down the incident involving Carragher with a hilarious opening monologue on Wednesday night.

She said: ‘You know what, this group has been together now for three-and-a-half years is it I think and I grew up with a brother and on this show I feel like I’ve gained three more here at the desk.

‘Let me introduce you to the group again. Thierry Henry, of course, the golden child who can do no wrong. Always says the right thing, sets the example for the rest of us.

‘Can he be intimidating? Yes he can. But he is the big brother we all look up to and we all aspire to.’

Abdo then focused on Carragher, describing him as ‘that one annoying family member’.

She said: ‘Then there is the middle child. Jamie Carragher. A chip on his shoulder, capable of saying anything for attention.

‘Does he go too far sometimes? Absolutely. Does he apologize? Yes, he does. But all of us have that one annoying family member that we still love and accept.

‘And then there’s little bro. Loud but loveable, Micah Richards. Easy to pick on, impossible not to love and everybody’s favorite.

‘You know what? Like a good family we stick together. So here we are, another day and another show. Good to be with you all.’
