Kai Trump has offered a glimpse into the unique challenges she faces as the granddaughter of a sitting president, shedding light on the ‘awkward’ dynamics of dating while under the constant surveillance of the Secret Service.
In a candid debut podcast interview, the 18-year-old shared insights into the pressures that come with being part of a prominent political family. She also expressed her unexpected views regarding her grandfather’s political adversaries.
Discussing her personal experiences, the aspiring golf star confessed that having a security detail shadowing her every move has complicated the typical teenage experience.
“It’s a bit strange,” she admitted, reflecting on how she’s adapted to this unusual circumstance. “I do my best not to let it affect me. Over the past year, since he became President, I’ve had to come to terms with their presence. I’ve learned to act as if they’re not there.”
She elaborated, saying, “Of course, they are there, but if you try not to focus on it and enjoy time with friends and family, it becomes more manageable.”

The 18-year-old opened up in a rare interview about the pressures of high-profile family
The teenager admitted that 24/7 surveillance has lead to a number of obstacles in her life
“Initially, it was difficult having someone tail you constantly,” she recounted. “But once I realized that their sole job is my protection, I could concentrate on my own activities and let them handle theirs. It made things so much simpler.”
Elsewhere on the podcast, the 18-year-old seemingly extended an olive branch to Trump’s former rival Kamala Harris and said there is no ‘bad blood’ between them.
When asked by host and WWE star Logan Paul about her opinions on Harris, she said: ‘To be honest with you, I stay out of politics completely. Like, I would never run and I don’t want anything to do with politics.
‘I feel like politics is such a dangerous thing and I think if both sides met in the middle everyone would be so much more happier and I think there’s radical left, there’s radical right and there’s a lot of people who get too extreme.
‘And that’s where social media really ties into it because social media kind of makes your Instagram or your feed be one way or the other and there’s not a lot of things on social media if you’re very much in the middle.
‘I think that kind of makes some people crazy and some people buy into it too much. I think that’s like the best way to say it. There’s no bad blood. I’m very much in the middle. It is what it is, they ran against each other’.
Finally, the budding golfer ended by offering an insight into Trump’s presidential future, as podcast host Paul pressed her on the possibility of a third term.
The teenager admitted that her grandfather has no plans to run again but left the door open by admitting ‘a lot could happen until 2028’.

Her appearance on the podcast came just days after she kick-started started 2026 in major style, spending time with Masters champion Rory McIlroy on the driving range.
The 18-year-old posted footage of McIlroy ripping a drive on the range before sharing a picture of herself alongside only the sixth man to compete golf’s Grand Slam.
‘Best way to start the year,’ Trump wrote alongside the picture.
McIlroy, of course, isn’t the only golfer whose expertise Trump is able to tap into. Her mother, Vanessa, is dating Tiger Woods – their relationship was exclusively revealed by the Daily Mail back in March.
Trump has a big 2026 ahead of her. She will be joining the University of Miami as a part of the 2026 signing class to play collegiate golf. She committed to the school back in August.
