The moment a Liverpool fan tells devastated Mo Salah Manchester City are WINNING 3-2… seconds after he raced to the crowd thinking he’d scored the goal that would win the Premier League!

  • Mohamed scored in the 84th minute against Wolves to put Liverpool ahead
  • The Egyptian thought his goal had clinched the Premier League title for the Reds
  • But Manchester City had taken the lead against Aston Villa just moments before
  • One Reds fan could be seen signalling City’s scoreline to the Liverpool players
  • Salah instantly stopped celebrating and his expression dropped to devastation

Mohamed Salah thought he had scripted the final chapter of Liverpool’s Premier League title fairytale with his goal against Wolves, only for his celebrations to turn to dejection after a fan in the crowd told him Manchester City were winning.

Salah, brought on as a substitute, thought to have won the title for the Reds after he put Liverpool into the lead at Anfield on the final day of the season, believing City were still being held to a draw by Aston Villa.

However, Ilkay Gundogan had completed a stunning comeback for Pep Guardiola’s side at the Etihad just moments before after the champions had fallen 2-0 behind.

Salah raced over to the Liverpool fans to celebrate with his team-mates but one fan signalled that City had already gone ahead, holding up the scoreline on his fingers.

The Egyptian’s jubilant expression quickly dropped as he turned away from the stands looking utterly dejected.

Liverpool’s clash with Wolves was a must-win with the Reds also needing City to stumble against Reds legend Steven Gerrard’s side.

The Reds held up their end of the bargain as goals from Sadio Mane, Salah and Andrew Robertson sealed a 3-1 win after they shockingly fell behind to Pedro Neto’s opener just three minutes in.

Meanwhile, Gerrard and Co appeared to have played their part with Matty Cash and former Red Philippe Coutinho putting the visitors ahead.

But the reigning Premier League champions fought back with Gundogan’s brace and a Rodri strike coming in the space of five minutes to take the lead.

Despite the Anfield victory, Klopp’s side missed out on the title by one point to City for the second time as the Citizens won their fourth Premier League in five years.

Salah’s goal did ultimately stand for something as it brought him back level again with Tottenham’s Son Heung-min in the Golden Boot standings.

The duo finished to season on 23 goals after the South Korean netted twice in Spurs’ 5-0 rout over Norwich, but the award was a mere consolation prize for Salah.
