The presence of Roberto Firmino and Fabinho at Anfield for Liverpool’s Premier League clash with Newcastle has sparked wild reactions from fans on social media.

The duo were among of the raft of stars that departed the club last summer for the riches of the Saudi Pro League as the Reds set about rebuilding their ageing squad.

Both Firmino and Fabinho had been integral to Jurgen Klopp’s first successful side that went on to win the Premier League and Champions League – among other major honours.

‘Seeing Firmino and Fabinho back at Anfield is a bit emotional.’ Wrote one supporter on X, formerly Twitter. ‘Two players that gave us so much. Legends.’

Another wrote: ‘Do it for Bobby [Liverpool]. Bobby Firmino in attendance tonight at Anfield.’

A third said: ‘Nah Bobby Firmino is back to watch the game tonight.’

A couple of accounts were slightly more imaginative in their responses to the news that the former stars had made their first return to the club.

IT’S ALL KICKING OFF!

It’s All Kicking Off is an exciting new podcast from Mail Sport that promises a different take on Premier League football.

One fan accompanied their caption ‘Just saw Bobby Firmino and Lighthouse Fabinho back at Anfield’ with the clip of Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s emotional farewell at the San Siro in June.

Redmen TV posted a GIF of Dwight Schrute from Office crying with the message: ‘Firmino at Anfield.’
