Jurgen Klopp has built the best counter-attacking team in the world, insists Leicester boss Enzo Maresca as he prepares his side to face Liverpool on Wednesday.

During his two spells as part of Pep Guardiola’s coaching staff at Manchester City, Maresca had a ringside seat for some of English football’s greatest duels of the last decade.

And ahead of the Carabao Cup tie at Anfield, Maresca believes there is nobody to match the Reds in certain aspects of the game.

‘So now, even if they have new players, they just need time to adapt and then they will go again. Anfield will be a good environment for us.’

Klopp has revamped his midfield over the summer and so far the changes are working, with Liverpool only two points behind City in the Premier League – even though Guardiola’s side have won all six of their opening games.

Maresca’s men have been similarly impressive following relegation last season, taking 21 points from their first eight fixtures to climb to the summit.

He added: ‘I judge the results because they are important of course. But I also look at the way we are playing because we are improving. We are trying to refresh and change certain things so there have been many positive aspects.’
